New Deck Staining – Sikkens “Teak” Stain

This new deck here in Carmel, IN was recently installed and needed stained to protect it and allow it to last. As you can see in the “BEFORE” pictures, we had taken the metal spindles off the deck rails before we began the project.  If we have a deck where there are metal spindles and we are not able to remove them, we would cover them with tape, plastic, and paper to protect them. But since these were able to be removed, it made the prep work faster.

We did not get any pictures of our crew applying the wood stripper and brightener to remove the mill glaze, but we did properly prep the wood decking followed by a light pressure wash to remove any mill glaze before we applied the deck stain. A simple light pressure wash will not remove mill glaze, you must use a wood stripper and sometimes in combination with a light sanding in order to remove mill glaze on a new deck.

The customer chose Sikkens oil based “087 Teak” color stain.

This deck staining project turned out great and the customer was happy with the results.
